Experiencing a special tour to the Moroccan desert from Fes to Marrakech in 2 days can be one of the most thrilling activities you can ever engage in during a vacation here in Morocco. This trip, though might be short from your perspective of not having enough time, but can be very interesting as we will take you on an adventure through the beautiful landscapes of Morocco across the High Atlas Mountains which is considered as the footbridge towards the Sahara Desert. This is an opportunity to get introduced to the Morocco Sahara Desert, as well as getting to explore its unique features in a splendid fashion.
Being the second largest city in the whole of Morocco, Fes is a city which retains its reputation as the cultural capital of Morocco, owing to its walled Medina, radiant markets, and architectural pattern which is quite similar to a medieval standard. Exploring the city and visiting the center of attraction makes for an enjoyable start to this trip. Along the outskirts of Fes through Ifrane, lies an amazing view of the Atlas Mountain, which twists through the fascinating cedar forest – home to a species of monkey and other wildlife. Up ahead are the Berber villages – home to an ethnic group indigenous to North Africa, they are artisan locals famous for their dishes which is well known for being health and quite delicious. You also get to discover and observe the Berber locals’ lifestyle as well as learn new things from these locals.
Further ahead is the Sahara Desert – the hottest and largest desert in the world! It has distinct features ranging from the beautiful Oasis to the extensive plains, dunes, basins, sand seas and high mountain ranges. We make a quick stop and enjoy the view, after which we head for the city of Midelt, with its distinguished fossils and dazzling stones, while observing through the mountain route which punctuates the twisting Oued Ziz all the way to the palm grooves of Tafilalet, passing through the Kasbahs – one of UNESCO’s heritage site, here, you will understand truly why this place is highly regarded by UNESCO.
We then approach the colorful city of Er-Rachidia, which is very close to Merzouga – a small town in the Sahara Desert with a characteristic large expanse of sand dunes, it is also regarded as the gateway to Erg Chebbi where you enjoy unique moments while riding camels at the sunrise and sunset in the desert before returning to the camp which has been set up in the desert.
In the Sahara Desert, beyond Erg Chebbi, is an Oasis town called Erfoud, famous for its fossils and dates, also, lying ahead is the Todra Gorge – made up of a succession of canyons in the Eastern part of the Atlas Mountains with amazing spring water. Moving along the plateau while taking-in the view, we make our way towards the Dades valley – also known as the valley of roses, it is a series of sturdy canyons carved out by the Dades river, taking its source from the high Atlas range of the Atlas Mountain. It is about 200-300m deep.
After passing the Dades valley, we enter the historic city of Ouarzazate, south of the High Atlas Mountains, visiting its huge Taourirt Kasbah which is home to a 19th century palace and a landscape which stretches at a distance. It is one of the most beautiful cities of the world. Ouarzazate is a famous site where countless blockbuster movies were shoot, here you will get the chance to visit the cinema studios, take pictures and explore the city. Heading Northwest through the beautiful Skoura palm is the fortified red-earth city of Ait Ben Haddou, along the former caravan route between the Sahara and Marrakech. It is one of UNESCO’s heritage site situated on the edge of the High Atlas Mountains and it is a sight to behold!
Finally, we make a stop and take a tour of the former imperial city of Marrakech, it is also described as ‘‘a fortified city within a city’’ thanks to the complicated, narrow streets of its Medina and the Majestic plaza – the central of attention where most of the fun activities like fortune telling, snake charming and acrobatics occurs. It is usually a feast for the eyes as one is rather captivated by these events. You will then be accompanied by your tour guide to your private quarters where you can rest up after an eventful outing.
The cities of Morocco with their side attractions promises an intriguing experience, thereby making here the ideal destination for a vacation with your loved ones or just yourself and becoming one with nature.
